Ethical decision-making process usually aligns with the employee’s personal values. With work routine presenting challenges to the individual’s moral principles, one should resolve the internal conflict based on his beliefs. In a work environment, employees frequently have to make choices between following their ethical code or guidelines of the company, which may communicate different values. According to “Value-based Decision Making,” to incorporate values in one’s decision-making process, individuals should, first, clearly, identify what is important to them in life. Staying focused on those principles, they should not perform tasks that diverge from their determined ethical code. In Snowden’s case, it is clear that the man’s values of integrity and honesty did not align with the NSA’s data collection policy, resulting in him choosing his moral principles over the company’s rules.
