Under what circumstances would adding gender as a second factor in a between-subjects study not reduce variability?

Adding gender as the second factor in between-subject studies does not reduce variability in the case when a large number of participants is involved. For instance, in a study in which a complex interaction is suggested, this method will increase the accuracy of outcomes while not posing any limits. In other words, statistically significant results are received through examining the phenomena with the mean differences that are small.
