Plato’s approach does have some merit since testing citizens early on can help identify very talented individuals or highlight characteristics in young people that can be trained to make them better professionals. While Plato’s vision does depend on people following their calls in life, it can be argued that realistically a very small percentage of people ever find that but can still do something they enjoy or are good at. Plato is optimistic, but his methods can highly benefit societal development and contribution to the Just state.
