Within the medical approach to disability, there is a view that people are disabled by their differences and impairments. The model suggests that such impairments should be addressed with the help of treatment, even in cases when disability does not cause any pain or illness. However, there is not much that can be done in regards to the blind individual since her disability progressed slowly and could not be stopped, which means that current treatments will be ineffective.

From the social model standpoint, disability is considered to develop by the soсial organization instead of differences and impairments. It aims to remove limitations that prevent disabled individuals from living life comfortably. For a blind person, smart solutions such as brail maps, GPS services, sound-based warnings, and other amenities are considered improvements within the social model.
