The gender difference between the number of crimes committed by both sexes is explained in various ways. On the one hand, biological or evolutionary theories explain this phenomenon by physiology. In other words, the totality of both genetic characteristics and the processes occurring in the human body are considered. Such theories, however, cannot fully explain the increasing number of crimes committed by women. From my perspective, for a full-fledged explanation, it is also necessary to consider the social factor.

In previous years, women were under the yoke of the patriarchal order, which gave them very little chance to commit a crime. However, there has been an active change in gender roles in society in recent years. Women are increasingly taking on traditionally masculine roles, taking on the responsibility of doing men’s work. They can now behave more freely, including concerning the commission of crimes. Thus, if this trend towards equality in society continues, the criminal gender gap may decrease even more due to the increasing role and strengthening of the position of women in society.
