The Internet is a driving force behind developments in telecommunications, networks, and other information technologies. Do you agree or disagree? Why?

The Internet has greatly boosted telecommunication, network, and information technology in general. Telecommunication is a communication process that transmits information using telephone lines. This communication process cannot take place in the absence of the Internet. For the transmission of information to take place in this system, the computer is connected to the telephone lines using a modem. The function of the modem is to change the digital data being transmitted by the computer from digital into analog (modulate) to enable it to be relayed through the telephone lines.

The modem connected to the recipient computer changes the modulated information from analog back to digital. Through this process, communication is enabled. Telecommunication enhances the transmission of information through long distances such between counties or continents. In this way, firms are able to advertise and sell their products online with the help of the Internet through a process known as electronic shopping where people collect what they want inside an electronic basket and then pay using their credit card.

This helps most people to access what they need conveniently without having to go from one shop to the next looking for these products. With the advancement of technology, this process of shopping is posing some dangers due to the hackers who can tap details of one’s credit card and use them for unauthorized purchases. Therefore, the Internet users should be aware of mechanisms such as encryption programs that they should put into place to stop this. The use of encryption reduces this risk because files encryption encodes or scrambles files so that anyone who accesses such files full of data will need to access the encryption program which can be accessed only by the retailers of a website making that data useless to the unauthorized user.

The Internet has also facilitated the development of different kinds of networks present nowadays. These networks range from client-server networks to peer-to-peer networks. Computer networks have also of late greatly evolved to enable even connection of the Internet devices without the use of physical media. This type of network is known as a wireless network. This network technology has greatly boosted mobile firms. It has also enabled Internet connection in areas that are not served by telephone lines through the use of wireless networks such as Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi is a wireless network that was developed by Intel Company to allow communication in remote places. Therefore, the Internet has greatly boosted telecommunication, network, and information technology in general.
