The first takeaway about the African American culture reflected is that hair styling may be a nurturing activity that promotes the development of good parent-child interactions. The insight gained is that the father depicted himself as a hero because he acquired a new skill and was ready to change himself for his daughter’s happiness. The second takeaway is that a hero can be a regular person, and the insight is that the qualities, such as belief in our strengths and capabilities and the ability to share our love, make us heroes.
The insights I gained from the culture helped widen my perspective because I realized that everyone could become a hero; for instance, a father is a hero for his daughter, or my teacher is a hero for me. It is crucial to remember that in order to become a hero, a person needs to overcome his own fears and barriers. The culture of the selected artifact is close to my culture because I think of the same values when imagining a hero and significant traits to succeed. Additionally, the father from Hair Love collaborated with his daughter to grow his abilities and worked constructively to achieve desired results.
