Some nurses feel that nursing research is intimidating. Does research feel that way to you and what can you do to get past that?

A

Nursing research can be intimidating for specialists that have not developed a strategy to approach the matter. I believe that the primary reasons for the issue are the abundance of information that may appear redundant or contradictory and overloaded scheduled in acute care. First, I experienced that different studies may come to polar conclusions for the same problem. It seems that sometimes authors represent bias and tend to cite only the sources that support their claim. Additionally, there appear to be many articles that come to identical results in some spheres, while others lack sufficient evidence. This leads to information redundancy and intimidates inexperienced nurses. The way to overcome the problem is by addressing systematic reviews that help to navigate the world of nursing research. Second, it may be difficult to find time for the research in the context of understaffing when nurses are forced to work extended hours. The way to overcome the matter is by setting up priorities and attending time-management courses. In short, even though nursing research was intimidating to me, I found ways to overcome the reasons for the feeling.
