Should buprenorphine and methadone medications as well as drug addiction rehabilitation and primary and follow-up OBGYN care be given cost-free for pregnant opioid dependent patients?

A

Opioid abuse during pregnancy is indeed an acute healthcare issue that is aggravated by the fact that not only the woman but also the fetus are at risk. Research indicates that treatment with methadone and buprenorphine has the potential to reduce the adverse outcomes for the fetus’s health. In my opinion, offering these medications, as well as OBGYN care and drug addiction rehabilitation, for free to opioid-dependent women is a good idea. In the majority of cases, such patients lack financial or moral support, and they may neglect their health or the health of their future baby if they do not have enough money to pay for anti-opioid treatment and OBGYN care. As a result, children born to such mothers have serious health problems which take much time and many resources to manage. Thus, giving methadone and buprenorphine to pregnant opioid-dependent patients is a viable solution to dramatic issues.
