Share any thoughts you have on the poem “Elegy For Killmonger With My Own Pain Entering Frame” by Charleston.

In Elegy for Killmonger with My Own Pain Entering Frame, the narrator talks of pain associated with losing a loved one, in this case, the death of E’s dad. However, the narrator is keen to relate the pain Africans suffer in America and how it has been passed over generations. He says, “the child of pain is always a pain as well, couldn’t dream of being anything more than its sorry daddy was.”

The realization of the life lived by Africans in America informs the understanding of why some African American ancestors preferred to be buried in the ocean than live in bondage.
