In my first year of work, I was employed in a unit with poor leadership. The nurse manager was disrespectful and controlling to employees and patients. While she followed most of the hospital’s guidelines and procedures for safe patient care, she never listened to patients’ complaints and concerns. One day, a patient tried to tell her that she forgot to give him a refill of his oral medication, but she cut him off without listening, and the patient had a seizure. After this incident, I talked the other nurse into reporting the manager, and she was fired following a brief investigation.
