The first poem has a cold and distant tone to illustrate how humans reject the idea of walls even though they represent a source of a safe environment. The author sets the tone with the statement that walls have “frozen ground swell” and contrasts it with the main character’s discussion of how joyful it must be to be in place of hunters, who “left not one stone on a stone.”

In the second poem, the author emphasizes nature’s short cycle by comparing it to an hour. The tone of the second poem is full of sadness, yet it also has a sense of relief to it, as the author implies how it is natural for things to fade gradually. Even though both poems utilize the theme of nature, they have different tones and convey different ideas inspired by nature to the reader.
