Stanley appears to be a calm and collected gentleman at the beginning of the play since he is loyal to his friends and shows passion for his wife. However, as the play progresses, his evil, arrogant and violent personality reveals itself. He has hatred toward Blanche and becomes so violent that he hits his wife, Stella. Stanley takes advantage and rapes Blanche when they remain alone at home, and he ensures that Blanche goes to the hospital for her mental illness.
