Read Scheper-Hughes’ “A talent for life: Reflections on human vulnerability and resilience.” What was the author’s aim and what makes her aim anthropological? Put your anthropological cap on!

The author aimed to provide a different view on the ways of life that the majority of people in developed countries see as tragic and full of struggle. While the latter is certainly true, many people who have to live in such conditions do not see their lives as tragic and full of suffering. The aim of the article was to demonstrate the challenges that people in different cultures face, as well as how they overcome those challenges through resilience. The article poses a question about what makes people that have to live in crisis resilient. Answering this question is an anthropological aim because it provides insight into the nature of trauma and people’s will to survive.
