The article lists three dimensions of a culturally competent counselor. Firstly, they are actively aware of how their own assumptions about human behavior and life values have been culturally conditioned. Secondly, they actively and respectfully try to understand their client’s worldview. Thirdly, they actively develop and practice invention strategies sensitive to their client’s cultural values and experiences. Counselors need to be constantly conscious of multicultural differences when assessing, interacting with, and treating clients.
