Desiree’s Baby is a story that outlines the plight of African-Americans and women, and racists. It is a sad story that focuses on the social issues of racism and sexism. The story is set in times of slavery and explores how racism was in a facet of society.

One of the main characters in the story had a reputation for mistreating African-Americans on his farm. He would have lived in a harmonious marriage with his wife, but he did not because of racial issues. Armand’s cruelty to those he enslaves and Desiree is deeply entrenched in racism, and ironically, he has black ancestry as well.

Desiree’s Baby is personal because it reminds me of the hurt I often feel when my close friends suffer because of their skin color. Despite its abolition, there is no equality in the U.S., and people from minority groups continue to suffer. My friend is the best example of racial inequality still practiced in the country.
