The narrator realizes that his insecurities and weaknesses cause his skepticism and despicable attitude towards Robert. The blind man does not react to the narrator’s sarcasm and cruel humor. On the contrary, Robert pities the man, who can afford to be mean to others out of jealousy. The narrator realizes that even being able to see, he cannot describe the cathedral in detail. Drawing helps him imagine and understand that creation does not depend on the ability to see.
