The story has religious connotations supported by the various discussions of the church, cathedral-oriented denouement, and the title. The cathedral is the symbol of the narrator’s understanding that his position to reject God is wrong. Closing his eyes and imagining the cathedral helped him realize that life has more sense than he had thought. The blind person shows the narrator the other world, which is directly connected with faith and hope. Thus, the cathedral is the symbol of God’s unconditional love, which the narrator finds in Robert.
