For Deckers, forecasting is the starting point for inventory management. With it, the company plans sales, resources, and operations. Moreover, the entire supply chain thus depends solely on forecasting. Fall and spring shoe collections are created twice a year at Deckers. This process involves the selection of materials and the creation of model designs.

However, the fundamental difference between the way forecasting is made in Deckers and how it is described in chapter eight is that in Deckers. It occurs at both the product and aggregate levels. It is essential that forecasting is carried out months before the start of the season. For each product, an analysis of the demand history of past collections must first take place.

In addition, judgmental forecasts are crucial to this company – they are used to create second and third categories of shoes.
