Travis kills Eckels in the last moments of the story since he failed to obey the provided rules of returning into time. The victim panicked and moved off the path established to offer protection against possible interferences that could affect the course of history. He smashed a butterfly, influencing many changes to happen and affecting the future. It became evident that the future had changed at the safari party when common English spelling was noted to differ. Travis seemed not to have any mercy despite understanding that he was the one responsible for all the negative changes. Eckels falls to his knees as he cries his last breath loudly. However, Travis never felt agony or guilt for killing him but instead gained motivation to justify his actions.
