Prepare your reflection about the focus of chapters 4-6 of “From silence to voice” by Buresh & Gordon.

The work of a nurse presupposes constant contact with patients to deliver care and monitor their recovery process. At the same time, these health workers cooperate with other specialists in the hospital to align the continuity of care and improve results. For this reason, communication becomes one of the central concerns that should be given specific attention. The suggested chapters are also devoted to this topic. They reveal the fact that nurses are still vulnerable and face a biased attitude because of the lack of parity with physicians and respect from patients. It shifts priorities and contributes to the creation of an environment where these health workerscontributions to positive outcomes are disregarded.

In such a way, despite numerous attempts to create an equal society, people might still disrespect nurses because of their vulnerable position and the lack of parity with other health workers. Under these conditions, the question of communication and presenting ourselves acquire the top priority. I am sure nurses should be ready to engage in the process of their positions` reconsideration to attain a more respectful attitude and ensure that their fundamental needs will be satisfied. I think that the chapters also demonstrate that these health workers should establish a particular form of communication to guarantee that they will not face biased judgments. At the same time, physicians and other specialists should assist nurses in their attempts to gain respect by using respectful communicational patterns and demonstrating their successes to patients for them to understand the role nurses played in their recovery. In general, the information in papers will help me in my practice as I will use recommendations to communicate with patients and specialists to attain respectful treatment.

Altogether, despite the unique importance of the work of a nurse, there are still many problems specialists might face because of the lack of information regarding their occupation and the use of wrong communication patterns. That is why the chapters reveal all existing threats and concerns for a nurse to be ready to present himself/herself in a way that will help to remain respected and communicate with patients and physicians efficiently.
