I think there are several reasons why people might be against COVID restrictions. Some people tend not to believe in masks and self-isolation, as if they do, it can affect their only source of income. These kinds of practices significantly influence people’s level of anxiety since it does eliminate us from each other.

There are elderly and people of low socioeconomic status who might easily fall for some propaganda because they do not usually surround themselves with different resources of information that can make their perception less biased. Thus, all of the above can be why people defy scientific evidence of COVID.

This happens because of their desperate attempt to avoid reality. To not face current challenges that they cannot put up with, people fall for things they want to believe, which is what false perception creates. Some believe that wearing it restricts their freedom; it is perceived as something imposed by authorities whom they do not recognize.

Another part of people believes that the absence of a mask does not pose a real danger to them. They either do not think about whether they themselves are a danger to others or believe that they are not doing anything antisocial in any case.
