The process of the joint venture establishment was rather complicated. Fuji Xerox joint venture was created as the 50/50 business based on the Fuji Photo Film Company and Rank Xerox. Originally, it was created as a marketing organization aimed at selling xerographic production created, developed, and produced by the Japanese company. However, the point of view of the Japanese government differed regarding this matter, and such a joint venture received a refusal to be approved as the company to sell products only. The agreement was revised to provide Fuji Xerox with the rights to manufacture. Fuji Xerox received an exclusive opportunity to produce xerographic production in Japan. Then, Fuji Xerox managed to subcontract Fuji Photo Film Company as the manufacturer of the joint venture products in Japan.
Prior to the establishment of the joint venture, the specialists from Fuji Photo Film explored the details and peculiarities of the Xerox copiers’ production. Three engineers from FPF spent about two months exploring the needs of the future company in terms of the necessary equipment and supplies. It had granted the effectiveness of the joint venture from the beginning of its operations since the manufacturer (FPF) was aware of the details of the production process. It allowed the joint venture to avoid hold-ups in the process of launching the production facilities, and Fuji Xerox started to generate revenues from the start. Such a thorough and careful approach to the implementation phase has influenced the overall success of the venture in the future. It should be noted that any other approach to the implementation phase of the joint venture could have resulted in much less efficient results in the future, and the overall success of the venture would not be that significant. The reason is in the different cultural approaches to the creation of business structures in Japan and the USA, not to mention Great Britain with its peculiarities and differences in managerial approaches.
