Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 is a law passed by Congress in 2002 to help protect investors from corporate financial reporting fraud. The act is characterized by a comprehensive approach to solving problems caused by fraud in the financial statements of companies whose securities are listed on stock markets. It is also distinguished by the cruelty of the penalties for such unseemly acts of persons involved in their commission.
