All I know about aging in general and the aging of the brain, in particular, supports the first theory. With aging, reaction time slows down, and intelligence may decline significantly (although there is still a chance that it will be steady for the whole lifespan). It is explained by the fact that certain negative changes occur to the brain. After 20 years of age, the overall length of the brain’s myelinated axons decreases by 20% every ten years. Moreover, aging has an irreversible effect on memory, cognitive abilities, eyesight, and hearing. These physical impacts account for the fact that most people lose their creative potential.
