Angina pectoris
Decreased blood flow through the coronary arteries causes less oxygen to reach the myocardium. Symptoms include sudden and agonizing pain in the substernal region, the pain may radiate to the left shoulder and arm, up to the jaw, skin becomes cold and clammy, the pulse is normal, and with little or no change in blood pressure. The patient becomes anxious and impatient. The predisposing factors are atherosclerosis, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, syphilis, and rheumatic heart disease.
Myocardial infarction
Occlusion of the coronary artery. The area becomes necrotic (infarct) and may be caused by an embolus, vasoconstriction of the arteries, or sudden atherosclerotic changes in the vessels. The predisposing factors include atherosclerosis, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, obesity, family history, smoking, and blood cholesterol levels were 200 to 239 borderline high and 240 high LDL 130 to 159 borderline high/160 high risk. Symptoms include severe crushing pain in the substernal region and upper abdomen, radiating to shoulders, arms, jaws, skin cold and clammy, pulse rapid, weak, irregular, nausea, and possible vomiting; blood pressure drops extremely apprehensive.
