More and more nurses are becoming involved in advocacy and running for government positions. In your opinion, is being a nurse an advantage when advocating for health policies or running for elective office? Why or why not?

Despite the numerous reasons that limit the nursing profession’s potential influence on politics, nurses are nonetheless crucial to creating and executing healthcare policy. Moreover, academic hospitals give nurses and pharmacists more authority, enabling them to question doctors’ directives.

Nurses should take the lead in reforming the healthcare system because they are the most significant medical profession in the world. Too frequently, policies that affect nursing practice cause nurses to lose patience, especially when such approaches were created by people with no background in or expertise in healthcare. Therefore, it is a tremendous advantage for nurses involved in advocacy and running for government positions to have proper knowledge of medicine.
