Many people copy music CDs from friends rather than buying the music themselves. They give a variety of reasons to justify their actions. How can you refute each of the reasons given below using the ethics theories or principles?

I don’t have enough money to buy it.
Universalism Theory stipulates obligation for all people and defines the rights for everyone.

The retail price is too high. The company is gouging customers.
It is an attempt to edge out reality, which plays down the Risk Aversion Theory.

Since I wouldn’t have bought it anyway, the company didn’t lose a sale.
The reasoning is ethically wrong. Slippery Slope Theory stipulates that an argument should be a linked claim.

I’m giving my friend the opportunity to do a good deed.
It is against the Social Contract Rule that stipulates the importance of taking the right actions.

Everyone else is doing it. Why should I be the only person to buy it when everyone else is getting it for free?
It is ethically wrong. The Golden Rule Theory upholds reciprocity, i.e., treating others as you would like to be treated.

This is a drop in the bucket compared to Chinese pirates who sell billions of dollars worth of copied music.
The No Free Lunch Principle states that if an individual gets something free, another person pays for it. Despite the piracy, musicians lose.

This is insignificant compared to the billions of dollars worth of music being exchanged over the Internet.
Utilitarianism theory states that utility is maximized by individual moral actions; thus, own initiative should not be judged based on the actions of other people.
