Many ideas, religions, technologies, cultural groups, trade goods, and philosophies crossed Eurasia during the century of Mongol rule, transforming Silk Road civilizations and accelerating transculturation. Discuss two of these factors.

With trade networks spreading from one end of the continent to the other, cultures could travel more easily across the Eurasian landmass. A good example of this is the spread of Christianity throughout South and East Asia. It is believed that this process was the origin of Christianity in Asia. An interesting figure in that regard was John of Montecorvino. He was a Franciscan missionary who, in the 13th century, traveled to the East with Roman Catholic missions.

Because of him, thousands of Asians were baptized – and Westerners learned much more about the East. Moreover, they were beginning to adapt to Eastern culture – but in their own way. For instance, spices – that had been uncommon in Europe – entered the Western diet. Additionally, cotton first appeared in Europe from India, and leather goods came from the region of modern Iran. Famous Persian carpets also started to arrive, and Europeans fell in love with them in a short amount of time.
