Many social media users thrive on emotions and often post how they feel to gauge the reaction of others. While the expressive reactions posted by internet community members may express their deep states of mind, they often receive responses that may ruin their moods. Online interactive platform outlets have created different sensations to help users express diverse sentiments. However, the quantification of response on social networks does not follow a scientific process and creates a false sense of security for the users. Although interactive sites thrive on the expression of feelings, happiness is a private frame of mind and should not be quantified.

The emoticons available on the social network and the need to create an impression on others promote the quantification of happiness. The digital forums’ outlets should ensure that they provide a platform for the sincere expression of thoughts. Quantifying sensations leads to a craze for ‘likes’ as people show an effort to create a favorable impression on others (BBC Ideas). In response, companies that optimize popularity have taken the cue and can provide the highest number of ‘likes’ for the people who are willing to pay. Marketers also look for highly popular individuals to act as their brand ambassadors from internet community influencers. The interrelationship between quantification of feelings and financial gain significantly drives social media activity.
