The Union soldier is seen just below the cheekbone of the Indian. It would appear to suggest that the cause of the death and loss of land of the Indian people was caused by the Union soldiers who showed no remorse for the helpless race. Catching a glimpse of the ghost soldier in the painting takes some time. However, it does bring to life and gives the picture a new feeling of sadness once one sees it.
