I would assess four clusters of concerns: basic, cognitive, motivational, and interpersonal. First, it is crucial to ask the client about his energy levels and physical health. Second, he could provide information about his concentration and memory skills, and attitude toward making and correcting mistakes. A careers advisor might want to ask questions about productivity and general attendance (motivational cluster). Lastly, data on the client’s ability to communicate, adapt, and respond to criticism could be useful. The information would be best drawn in a friendly conversation.
