Is this an argument?

Can you please tell me whether the following sentence is an argument: “Hydrogen is lighter than oxygen if it is the lightest element”?

  1. First, if you state that hydrogen is an element then you should state that oxygen is also an element.
The sentence you provided is rather a statement than an argument.

  2. An argument is a fact or statement that supports a proposition while a hypothesis supports an argument.
It is composed with the help of “if…then”

  3. If you are talking about formal logic in your argument, then add that ‘Oxygen is an element’.

  4. It is not an argument it is a common fact. You can’t really argue the commonly known facts you can only argue your own thoughts and opinions.
