Is Equality Attainable or Inspirational?

Can we attain equality in our modern society?

Equality is certainly a common buzzword in the expression of political systems. Is this lofty aspiration attainable? Or is it merely inspirational? How does property fit in? Use your reading of the first two sections of “The Communist Manifesto” (Chapter I “Bourgeois and Proletarians” and Chapter II “Proletarians and Communists”), and John Locke’s Second Treatise on Government (Chapter 5), as well as works by Engels, Rousseau, and Fourier, to assess the following question: “Is it possible to have both private property and equality in a state?” Include a specific discussion or assessment of what both “equality” and “property” means.
