Genotype refers to the genome or genetic material which is transferred from one generation to another. However, a phenotype is a collection of observable traits and characteristics, such as coloration, behavior, or longevity, which are the result of genetic variations. For example, the X-chromosome-linked hemophilia gene is a genotype, and hemophilia disease would be a phenotype. The disease is an observable outcome or characteristic of the gene. Another example would be eye coloration, where a gene responsible for giving eye color, such as AA, is a genotype, and brown or blue eye color is a phenotype.
