The TRC recommendations have been emphasized on several occasions calling upon the Canadian government and key stakeholders to implement them for a better future. In a review of the Aboriginals’ history, Peers and Coutts comment that educators and historians are asked to learn from the past and shape the education sector accordingly.

These stakeholders are called upon to include more Aboriginals in academia, shifting the focus from the historical fur trade to the pressing issues of inclusion. In essence, the Harper apology and TRC recommendations would only be viable if Aboriginals were involved in decisions on their land and other resources.
