P. radiata is a widespread species of pine. It is cultivated in Australia, New Zealand, North and South America, Europe, in particular, Spain and Great Britain. Monterey pine originated from the small area on the coast of California and on the Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa islands. Its unique traits are the fast-growing abilities and softwood with medium density qualities. Because of these wood characteristics, P. radiata is cultivated in many world countries as a source of wood. It grows in pine and mixed forests below 1200 m above sea level. Monterey pine propagates with seeds. Male and female generative organs (strobili) are present on the same plant. Male strobili produce pollen, which is spread by the wind. It fertilizes female structures, and seeds appear.
