In Elaine Scarry’s “The Body in Pain: The Making and Unmaking of the World,” what are the political consequences of “the language of agency”? In what ways is the problem of pain bound up with the problem of power?

The language of agency that Scarry discusses on page 13 is meant to eliminate pain by those who experience it or those speaking on behalf of those experiencing pain. The political consequence of the agency’s language is that it is used to pacify those that have been affected by war. The problem of pain is bound with the problem of power because those in power always pretend to understand the problem of those in pain.
