The primary purpose of DTE was to keep all employees employed during the economic crisis. Therefore, it was crucial to motivate workers to work collaboratively towards this goal. This motivation was mainly supported by negative reinforcement. In particular, associates had to follow the proposed plan of action to keep their positions. Thus, employees’ motivation was driven by fear and unwillingness to face the undesired consequences of inaction.
