If you had to pick one of the historical perspectives to use to study and explain behavior, which one would it be? Why?

If I were to choose only one historical perspective on the explanation of behavioral patterns, I would use the psychoanalytical analysis of Sigmund Freud. The reason for it to have remarkable explanatory power lies in its focus on the unconscious processes – thoughts, feelings, desires – that make people behave accordingly. Thus, it clarifies the irrational choices that even people themselves cannot always explain. Another attractive feature of this perspective is its emphasis on the childhood experience.

It seems logical that our behavior is greatly influenced by some patterns we acquired in our childhood, our parents, and our closest relatives. As the information is absorbed during the early ages, especially effectively, it appears to influence the whole of our life. Furthermore, dreams are the expression of these unconscious processes, and by analyzing them, it is possible not only to explain specific behavioral patterns but also to find a way to overcome some problems.
