Pay
One of the acts addressing the statutory rights workers have in the fields of pay is the National Minimum Wage Act of 1998. The major rights of employees include the ones to be paid a minimum wage and not to suffer the detriment of being dismissed for reasons related to the minimum wage. Moreover, workers have a right to access employers’ records of payment; the prohibition of the access is considered a criminal offence.
Leave
The statutory rights workers have in the field of leave are determined by the Working Time Regulations of 1998. They state that all employees, including those working part-time, have the right to at least 28 days of paid leave annually. It is vital to note that companies are not entitled to provide employees with paid leave for public holidays, but these holidays can be included in the statutory holiday entitlement. According to the Working Time Regulations of 1998, employees should pay wages to part-time workers, as they are also entitled to 5,6 weeks of paid leave.
Working Time
Employees have a right to one uninterrupted 20-minute rest break in case their working day is longer than 6 hours. They cannot work for more than eight hours a day or 40 hours a week. Moreover, they are entitled to 11 hours of rest between working days, 24 hours without work each week, and 48 hours without work each fortnight. Employers should ensure that all of these regulations are followed and that employees’ safety and health are not at risk.
