My community is Queens Village, and the primary health issue affecting it is heart disease. It is the leading cause of death in Queens Village, with a death rate of 133.4. Additionally, heart disease accounts for a significant share of healthcare expenses and leads to significant health consequences, including death. A related health issue evident in the community is an unhealthy lifestyle. Based on the Windshield Survey, many people in Queens Village smoke, drink alcohol, have an unhealthy diet, and have poor activity levels. These habits are among the key risk factors for heart disease, as well as for other non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes. An unhealthy lifestyle is thus a health issue because it leads to the development of diseases that could threaten a person’s life and are associated with significant healthcare costs.
Hence, it is important to address heart disease and unhealthy lifestyles in my community using evidence-based methods for prevention and lifestyle modification. In particular, nurses and other care providers need to identify at-risk patients and provide them with access to health services and education.
