Cluj city has a population of about 400,000 people, and the city is still rising from the underdevelopment left behind by the oppressive communist authoritarian ship rule of one of the Eastern Europe countries.

Unemployment is rampant in Cluj city, as from November of last year, i.e., in 2009 unemployment rate was 3.1%. Many of the people in Cluj who are employed earn less than 180 dollars. This is a third of what other workers in the European countries earn. With the setting of this Nokia plant, the workers employed will earn better pay as per to the workers in other European countries, and they will have a chance to be trained on new technology in the telecommunications industry, and they know that Nokia is a well-known and respected brand in the world.
