How societal and religious expectations increase or decrease perceptions of equity and ultimately relationship satisfaction for couples within those societal and religious structures.

The religious and societal roles have created controversy over femininity and masculinity in the contemporary world. As the world continues to advance and evolve, the role and responsibilities of women continue to take a different facet. Today women are seen to perform beyond just childbearing and household duties.

This has created a conflict between the religious and traditional approaches, and those women who are still controlled by the traditional approach feel oppressed and unsatisfied in their marriage. Therefore the ultimate satisfaction of couples in marriage is curtailed by what these women describe as stereotypes.
