I believe that diversity in the board of any organization plays a great role in enhancing the effectiveness of the board. Gender diversity leads to better performance, a wide range of talents, and increased market responsiveness. Research and studies indicate that organizations that have included women on their boards have better governance and performance than those without. In addition, the proportion of women on board determines the effectiveness of the board. As such, studies show that women are more aware of the risks involved in managing a board than their male counterparts. To take advantage of this fact, countries such as Norway have adopted quota criteria for the number of women on boards of their companies. Equally, the European Union is considering adopting the quota criterion to ensure an increased number of women in the management board of companies. In general, board diversity improves the governance of a company and should be adopted by all organizations.
