The rise of powerful Asian economies affects global views on the link between capitalism and free people because the countries in the region display a different approach to governing and economic regulation. Firstly, China has shown an example of a government with a specific economic model. This approach was proven to be useful as the country has shown significant growth over the past few decades. Secondly, the government of China can find solutions to complex decisions more quickly and more effectively when compared to Europe or the US. Finally, the top-down approach to decision-making and strict regulations have proven to be effective in Singapore and South Korea as well. However, it can be argued that the methodology utilized by the Chinese can be beneficial only in a specific cultural and social environment. Fukuyama refers to this as the China model and states that it is a valid alternative to a liberal democratic system in other Asian countries. According to the author, China “has combined authoritarian government with a partially marketized economy.” Fukuyama states that leaders of the country have managed to perform a transition from a centralized economy towards a more dynamic and open one. It can be argued that based on the growth that the country has had, the shift was beneficial. Therefore, Asian countries have affected the connection between free people and capitalism by providing a different perspective, showing a heavily regulated economic and political environment, which presents a significant level of growth.
