Social determinants of health include diverse aspects of people’s lives, including but not confined to health-related behaviors, eating habits, environment, housing, transportation, and access to healthcare and education services, among others. All these influences an individual’s learning needs by shaping people’s choices, behavioral patterns, and perspectives.
For instance, although all people should be trained on the best healthy lifestyle techniques, those living in hazardous environments need additional information on prevention measures or ways to keep safe. People should also understand the available opportunities and challenges they have in their neighborhoods, so they may need information regarding the current regulations, standards, and resources (such as financial aid or free services).
