How did the experiences in the Depression dehumanize people? How would these kinds of conditions affect people’s political and social attitudes?

The Depression could produce dehumanizing effects on many German people because it was difficult for them to retain their dignity. One should note that many of them were affected by extreme hunger. So, they could fall on the food when it was offered to them. They had to live on charity. Moreover, workers were forced to walk hundreds of miles in search of jobs, and they often lived in unsanitary conditions.

These harsh conditions often prompted people to believe that even a totalitarian regime could be acceptable if this government could help the country overcome its economic hardships. Moreover, they could often blame certain social groups for the problems faced by Germany. For instance, they could be opposed to people who supported liberal ideologies.
