In a battle to protect Uruk, Gilgamesh, and Enkidu killed the Bull of Heaven and Humababa, guardian of Cedar Mountain. Due to this, Enkidu saw a dream where gods proclaimed that for these actions, one must die, and Enkidu himself was chosen for such a shameful end.
He was suffering from sickness, which increased day by day while Gilgamesh treated him. Enkidu was cursed by the goddess, and he was ashamed of dying this way, “. I shall not die like a man fallen in battle; I feared to fall, but happy is the man who falls in the battle, for I must die in shame.” Lastly, he died, and his friend cried over him, full of grief and sadness.
