Ho claims that Vietnam’s independence is consistent with the philosophical principles which the Allies claimed were paramount during World War 2. What principles was Ho referring to, and does he make references to occasions where those principles were reasserted?

A

Ho was referring to certain sections contained in the United States and French Declaration of Independence documents which proclaimed that all people were born free and with equal rights, and so, they ought to enjoy freedom and equality. He acknowledged self-determination and equality as principles that supported Vietnamese independence (“Declaration of independence,” 2018). In the speech, he questioned why other countries lacked the feeling that the Vietnamese people deserved to enjoy similar rights as stipulated in the Declaration of Independence. According to Ho, the Vietnamese people had a right to enjoy freedom in the same way the Americans and the French did after declaring their independence. He cited two separate meetings conducted by Allied nations in San Francisco and Tehran that reiterated the importance of self-determination and equality. He felt that the same principles were supposed to be applied in granting freedom to the Vietnamese people (“Declaration of independence,” 2018). Moreover, he argued that they deserved freedom since they had cooperated with the French to fight the Japanese and promote equality.
